WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

20th of August 2020

Dear fellow prosecutors,

It is with great pride that I write this special message to welcome you to the East Africa Association of Prosecutors. Ten years ago on 4th February, 2010 in Kampala, heads of national prosecution authorities and member prosecutors from the then 5 East Africa Community (EAC) countries formally established the EAAP. The association then expanded in 2016 when South Sudan joined the EAC and our Association.  Currently, the association now has six member states representing over 2,000 individual prosecutors. The expansion of the EAAP is ongoing with all the neighboring countries of EAC countries indicating willingness to join the association at our last and 8th Annual General Meeting in Mombasa, Kenya in December, 2019. This process is ongoing and will result in the association having 15 member states, making it one of the largest association of prosecutors in the continent. We are also in the process of considering observer members and various Memorandums of Understanding with organizations keen to support the work of the EAAP. The growth of the EAAP membership and its thematic programmes is critical to achieving our goal to be a platform for enhancing the standards of prosecutorial practice and rule of law in our region and the continent at large.

The EAAP Strategic Plan (2016-2021) includes the development of this EAAP website to serve as a resource to all prosecutors and the public on regional issues, trends and developments in prosecution of crime. I am therefore very excited to welcome you all to this website, which will host various thematic prosecutor forums on key areas of prosecutorial practice in our countries. These thematic prosecutor forums will be secure portals for prosecutors to vibrantly engage and learn from each other, including hosting of webinars and other training resources for daily use by our growing number of prosecutors.

The website has come at an ideal time and I am grateful to all those who have contributed to its development, especially the support from the USAID CONNECT project partners. I urge all prosecutors in the region to embrace this tool and continuously contribute to it as a positive space for cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Welcome!

Mr. Biswalo Mganga, Director of Public Prosecutions - Tanzania & EAAP President.
