The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kenya, hosted two distinct workshops under the Follow-up Programme on Cryptocurrencies, Financial Crime and Joint Investigation Teams, held from 29th June to 3rd July 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshops brought together prosecutors, law enforcement officers and other criminal justice actors from the Eastern Africa region to enhance regional capacity in addressing cryptocurrencies, financial crime, digital evidence, cross-border investigations and joint investigation teams. The sessions provided a platform for practical learning, experience sharing and strengthening cooperation between prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in the investigation and prosecution of complex transnational financial crimes.
Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Louis Dey from the European Union Delegation, Mr. Apollo Africa, Chief Executive Officer of EAPCCO, and Mr. Vincent Monda, OGW, ‘ndc’ (K), Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, who represented the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors.
The workshops underscored the importance of regional collaboration, effective coordination between prosecution and investigative agencies, and the need to enhance technical capacity in handling emerging forms of financial crime involving virtual assets and digital evidence.
